Tectonus
Seismic Dampers for maximum earthquake resilience Visit Company SiteView all current offersTectonus is redefining earthquake resilience with an approach that significantly reduces structural, economic, and environmental damage. Their proprietary seismic devices feature both energy-damping and self-centering capabilities, setting them apart from traditional strengthening methods.
Unlike conventional approaches, Tectonus technology allows structures to absorb and dissipate seismic energy while maintaining the ability to return to their original position after an earthquake. This innovative system ensures that buildings and their occupants recover swiftly and efficiently, minimizing disruption and maximizing safety.
Tectonus was born in the aftermath of the extensive damage to buildings caused by Christchurch Earthquakes 2010-2011. Founders Prof. Pierre Quenneville and Pouyan Zarnani began thinking about ways to reduce residual drift so that building damage would be minimal and the occupants could go back in almost immediately. After several years of applied research, the Tectonus technology was born, with the aim to help engineers build 100,000 structures with true seismic resilience by the end of the decade.
Six years on, they’ve partnered with leading structural engineers in New Zealand and Canada and have successfully delivered more than 1000 devices across 30 different projects. Many more are in the works, in Japan, USA and Turkey. Tectonus generated $2.2m of revenue in FY23. They have a $52m project pipeline and are targeting $6m and profitability in FY26 with a focus on commercial retrofits and important buildings such as hospitals, government, emergency services, public buildings, and institutions across NZ and North America. They have a growing patent portfolio in 8 countries.
The leadership team are comprised of world-class technical experts led by a CEO Carl Beck who has prior exit experience. They are backed by professional venture investors and an experienced Board.
Funding for this round is to accelerate their sales and marketing efforts to convert pipeline to revenue.
