AN ETHICAL INVESTMENT TO PROVIDE STABLE HOMES FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE, AND A COMMERCIAL RETURN TO INVESTORS
Homes for Tamariki fund has been established in partnership with Ministry of Children-Oranga Tamariki and New Ground Capital. It is an investment vehicle that purchases existing homes throughout New Zealand and leases these properties to the Government for accommodation of vulnerable children and young people and their caregivers. These young people have a variety of complex needs and are unable to be placed in the care of extended family or foster care.
HOW IT WORKS
The Government (through the Ministry for Children) will identify properties that are well located and suitable for the young people in their care. Homes for Tamariki will undertake the due diligence, acquire the property, and then lease out to the Government on a long-term lease.
The Government pays rent annually in advance, and takes responsibility for the property and the young residents
The Fund makes quarterly distributions (net of rates, management fees, interest costs and incidental costs)
The company aims to deliver to shareholders: quarterly dividends from net rental income in excess of 4% p.a. and capital growth through appreciation of property values.
In May 2022, the Purpose Capital Impact Fund lead by Bill Murphy (Executive Chair of Enterprise Angels) became the first investor in Homes for Tamariki in a round that closed at $3.35m. Homes for Tamariki are now raising a further $20m over the next 12 months.
