Founded by Simon Malpas, Bryon Wright and Natalia Lopez and based in Auckland, Kitea Health emerged from the Auckland Bioengineering Institute and is an existing portfolio company of Enterprise Angels. The company garnered significant early support from the Health Research Council, Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment, and various charitable organizations. Kitea now also has the backing of multiple, well regarded institutional investors including Icehouse Ventures, NZGCP and Australian Medtech investor Bioshore Partners.

Currently, they’re in the clinical stage of developing their first device, aimed at tackling hydrocephalus—a condition marked by excessive fluid in the brain. They have completed safety trial in adults, implanting children and gearing up for FDA approval to conduct a pivotal trial in the US.
